Popped into my personal Yahoo account to see if there was anything of interest - like I do every morning.
Quick tip: I have an email address used only for online purchases - it's a great way to keep spam down in my personal email account and I know that all of my online notifications (special offers, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) will come to this account.
Today I received an email from Aveda with this subject:
Don't Miss It--Exclusive Green Science Gift + FREE SHIPPING Ends Tonight
I clicked through for two reasons: the green science gift caught my eye AND I need hairspray. I would have purchased the hairspray eventually but the email was a great reminder. I receive these emails because I'm a registered customer and regularly purchase haircare products from the site. On the landing page I explored the green science offer - cool stuff but nothing really caught my eye. Maybe next time.
As for shopping the Aveda site, It's a truly delightful experience. And I discovered a couple new things since my last visit. This Quick Shop feature is particularly cool:
It's called a Quick View Layer and it allows me to view a brief product description without clicking through to the product detail page. According to our Creative Director Jeff Lesko, all the best sites are doing this: Target, Meijer, The Gap. It looks like this:
From there, I added it to my bag and proceeded to check out. Here's something else I like about the site:
I added a free sample (the Tourmaline Charged Exfoliating Woop-di-Do Cleanser) - so I get to try a product I never would've considered and it makes me feel like I'm getting a little something extra for my effort.
As expected, checkout is zip-zip for me - because I'm a registered user I didn't need to submit my credit card information. Another reason I love shopping this site. All told, I was in and out of the site in less than five minutes.
So folks, things to think about for your web site: How can you make it easy for people to get what they're after quickly and easily, but also encourage them to explore and try new things? Aveda does it with style and ease.
